ANNUAL PROBATIONARY TRAINEE ACADEMY
EVFD holds 1 training class a year starting in January for those that do not possess TX Firefighter I &II certifications.
HYBRID CLASSROOM AND HANDS ON TRAINING
We offer a hybrid program where trainees complete the majority of their classroom work online through powerpoint, videos, and chapter reading. Each chapter is followed with a quiz and a test. Hands on training is held every Tuesday night. Trainees progress through their coursework and required skills to complete Firefighter I and Firefighter II through the State Firefighter's and Firemarshals' Association of Texas. Successful completion can also lead to certification with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
QUARTERLY LIVE FIRE TRAINING
EVFD trains 1 Saturday per quarter at a live fire training facility. All live fire training is mandatory and trainees will learn invaluable knowledge and skills when working a live fire scene.
ONE ON ONE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
During standby shifts, instructors and active firefighters work with trainees to further expand their knowledge and skills. We have ten certified instructors to assist in this process as well as many experienced firefighters.
Be Active
Volunteers are required to sign up for weekly shifts in addition to their weekly training with a combined minimum of 24 hours per month.
Be Strong
Being a firefighter is very labor intensive. All Volunteers must be physically able to perform every task.
Be Brave
When there are fires and explosions, most people flee and run in the opposite direction. Firefighters, however, go towards them. When disaster strikes, firefighters are one of the first officials to reach the scene. Even in medical emergencies, firefighters are responding to the call.
